What are the IHC Telecom Art Awards?
The IHC Telecom Art Awards were established in 2004 to encourage and recognise creativity from New Zealanders with an intellectual disability.
Over the years it has become an important event, with over 600 people entering in 2007.
The winners for 2007 IHC Telecom Art Awards are...
Paul Sedgwick from Hamilton won first prize and $5000 for his painting “Town Planning”
Aucklander Peggy Leung was second with her painting called “Beautiful Girl” and won $2000
Third equal were Christopher Wright from Oamaru for his sculpture “Waitaki Girls Waitaki Boys”, and Cherie Mellsopp, Hamilton, for her “Untitled Packaging”. Christopher and Cherie won $1000 each
Regional and national art exhibitions
Regional art exhibitions were held in Wellington and Hamilton. Members of the public were able to view the artworks from the upper and lower North regions at

The entire 30 finalist artworks were on exhibition at the Auckland Museum from 10 July until early September.
