IDEA Services is fully committed to the promotion, development and support of self advocacy.
This includes supporting service user meetings, local People First groups and regional gatherings of self advocates. Most Services allocate staffing hours or employ a Self Advocacy Support Worker to assist in the development of self advocacy within the services.
IDEA Services also involves service users in the strategic planning process and business planning. Many services encourage the development of a local Self Advocacy Focus Group. These groups, in consultation with IDEA Services management, develop a local development plan for self advocacy.
During 2005/06 a Service User Satisfaction Survey was undertaken. This helps those using services to have a say in the quality of their service and how it can best be provided. The user survey showed high levels of satisfaction. Among areas identified for improvement, service users asked to be listened to more, to get more help in developing skills to be independent, and to make more of their own choices.
