Great Idea! Volunteer.
Volunteering for IHC PrintPrint

The IHC Volunteer Programme promotes one-to-one friendship in the community. This is what makes being a volunteer for IHC so unique.

The IHC Volunteer Programme is not asking you to find another hour in your day. Simply include another person with similar interests into your life.

The IHC Volunteer Programme will challenge your ideas and perceptions of what volunteering is about. No fundraising, no cake stalls. This is volunteering on simple terms.

IHC wants you to spend time doing what you want to do, when you want to do it, with a person with an intellectual disability. The IHC Volunteer Programme will not ask you to do something out of the ordinary ie if you enjoy a good coffee or a walk along the beach, just include someone else and you might make a new friend.

IHC is clear about its expectations of volunteers and provides a well-supported opportunity to give something back to the community without too much disruption to your life.

You and your new friend choose how you spend your time:

  • The emphasis is on fun
  • There is flexibility and choice
  • It is not time specific, you meet as often as you want to
  • Spending approx. 2hrs week together gives you both time to get to know each other.
